Meet Liz
Liz Fieldsteel
My mugs and my muse, Oskar
Hello everyone, Liz Fieldsteel here. Teaching and pottery are both things that I began early in life and have continuously been drawn to. I taught in schools for 10 years as a Special Education teacher and Visual Arts teacher. I have taught in charter schools in Roxbury, Dorchester, and Watsonville, CA, public schools in Newton, Holyoke, and now South Hadley (Go Tigers) and a private school in Northampton. I have taught as an Outdoor Educator during my time at UNC-Chapel Hill and during my summers off at Manice Education Center in Florida, MA. I love teaching because of the continuous challenge and joy of helping people grow as individuals as they understand and apply new knowledge into their lives. How did pottery get tangled up in all of this? I was introduced to pottery when I was young and then scurried back to it in small pockets of my life. However, while working late nights at Feet of Clay in Brookline Village after my teaching job, I found that with pottery I was productive and extremely peaceful. There is a special type of thrill involved in making art, however, when you know that art will be intertwined in people's everyday life it adds an additional layer of reward.
Currently, I teach adult pottery classes at CyclePottery in Florence, MA. I am a director at Mudpie Potters in Leverett, MA which is a wonderful community clay center. Feel free to contact me with inquiries or questions!
